About Us


Richmondshire Leisure Trust (RLT)  is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee. The Trust has operated  high quality leisure facilities in the district of Richmondshire since April 2005.

RLT  operates and manages Richmond Swimming Pool and Liberty Health Club with a workforce of around 35 staff  , offering a range of services including:

  • Quality standard of swimming lessons
  • Health Club & wet suite
  • A full programme of fitness classes
  • Holiday activity programme

The Trust is also committed to supporting the development of health and  wellbeing throughout Richmondshire.

Andy White

Andy is the Chairman of Richmondshire Leisure Trust, having joined the Board in 2011. Although retired, he feels passionately about the need for leisure and community provision that enables well being for all users. He spent 40 years working in Education and Leisure and has made his retirement home in Richmond.

David Chefneux

David is a Director/Trustee and joined the Board in January 2020. He has a career of over 40 years working in local government finance and has passionate views regarding the role leisure provision can play in supporting mental health and physical wellbeing across the District.

Peter Devlin

Peter is a Solicitor and a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He is a Director/Trustee and Company Secretary to the Richmondshire Leisure Trust. He is a keen runner and swimmer and has obtained the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Austin Gordon

Austin joined RLT as General Manager in 2011 with  over 30 years’ experience of managing sports and  leisure facilities in the public, private and voluntary sectors. He is an avid Leicester City supporter and  enjoys playing a variety of sports including Golf, Tennis and Squash.

Rachel Joyce

Rachel is a Director/Trustee and joined the Board in April 2023 as a representative of North Yorkshire Council.

Rachel has worked in local government for over 28 years and has lived in Richmond for 20 years.

She is passionate about health and wellbeing, is a keen walker and can sometimes be found in the gym.


Jackie Stubbs

Jackie has had a successful career in hospitality, including establishing the community owned George & Dragon pub in Hudswell. Jackie is now a local  artist,  well known for her quirky folk art and love of sheep,  plus the occasional wall mural. As a person who lives with Multiple Sclerosis and  Dysexecutive Syndrome, Jackie joined the RLT board in 2021  to offer representation from a regular and disabled user’s perspective of  our leisure facilities . Jackie enjoys aqua fit, swims and can occasionally be found in the gym.

S Benson

Sarah Benson

Sarah joined the RLT Board as a Director/Trustee  in August 2022. She has an extensive  background in healthcare management, including  mental health and learning disability services.  She is a keen swimmer, cyclist and hill walker.


Bill Cross

Bill had a long career working for global automotive companies as an engineer in engine design, development and troubleshooting.Now retired, he keeps himself busy with projects in the garden, restoring a classic motorcycle, and helping with local voluntary work.He has travelled widely on long backpacking adventures, business trips, and family holidays.His interests include playing tennis, hiking, cycling, keeping fit and supporting Darlington Mowden Park rugby club.
